Picked up some new equipment. Quite the difference between big boy snowshoes and small woman size. Mine are GV Wide Trail 12"x42" hers are Tubbs Range 7"x25". Turns out I'm a GV distributor at my work so I got these for about half of what they cost in stores. $299.99 @ Cabela's I got them for $177.50 tax included.

Nice. I've got a pair of oldschool rawhide shoes from Beans that I have yet to strap on this year. Maybe we'll have enough snow for them at some point

The old school ones are no good here it's way too cold that they get brittle and break. Don't wish for snow it's not worth it.

true but I can't even fly to Calgary from Edmonton for 177 bucks. so I figured for the money I did pretty good.

I dunno I've used them in some pretty cold days. At what temp do they become brittle?

I've only ever been snowshoeing once, and it was awesome. My somehow grandfather (the one responsible for the CB name and fiasco related to it) had some land by some woods just outside of Collingwood, Ontario, and we visited him once during the winter. So one morning I put on a pair of snowshoes and went out along a trail, along with his dog. It was absolutely wonderful.
Someday I'll do it again. Someday...

it is not unusual at all for us to dip in the -30f range for weeks at a time. it is under -5f for at least 4 months out of the year and -30f for the other 6 weeks or so.
The rawhide snowshoes only last about a season around here.

There's some not bad whiskey coming out of that place.
